Confetti photos, they’ve been the “must have” photo for most of my 2024 weddings and it’s a trend I can definitely see continuing into 2025 and it’s easy to see why. Confetti photos are fun, colourful, interactive and they create some of the most natural, candid photos you could wish for, and that’s just my style. BUT make no mistake, snapping the perfect confetti photo comes with its challenges, so after a couple of years of practicing and mastering these photos, I thought I’d share my top tips to help you get the best confetti photo you can, on your big day.
It all starts with the confetti itself!
It goes without saying, like everything with weddings, when it comes to confetti you’ll be spoiled for choice. From different colours, to artificial versus natural confetti, the choice really is endless. But if a confetti photo is your endgame, then I recommend paper confetti, without question.
Dried flowers are also a lovely idea (and definitely environmentally friendly and smell amazing), although when it comes to confetti photos, in my experience they just don’t always get the same spread and lift when they’re thrown, unless you have LOTS and LOTS of the stuff, of course you may prefer dried flowers and sometimes venues will only allow this kind of confetti so there is nothing wrong with this choice and I've created some lovely shots from it too, just make sure that you get lots and lots of the stuff and you’ll still get that epic shot.
The other good news is though, is that you can now get biodegradable paper confetti, so you can get your confetti photo without compromising the environment, and because I’m great, I can even recommend two of my favourite confetti suppliers: Proper Confetti and Your Confetti. Just visit their websites, check out the confetti photos, enough said.
Now it’s time to nail the shot and that’s down to me and you.
To get the best confetti photo, timing is everything and that’s on me, but there are a few things you can do to help me out. Now first and foremost, please try not to squint. And yes I get it, thousands of paper missiles are flying in your face and of course you want to squint, but if you can fight the urge, it really will make all the difference to your final photos. I’ll follow this with my second top tip, which kind of helps to stop the squinting, and that is to enjoy it and have fun! It’s an amazing moment and if you’re laughing and smiling, it’ll really bring your photos to life. And let’s just say that closing your eyes while you're laughing can make a lovely photo (and avoid confetti in the eye - it’s a win win).
If you’re doing a confetti tunnel or a confetti receiving line, stopping halfway down the line for a cheeky little kiss and maybe even add in a dip, can capture some really great photos of you and your guests getting in on the confetti action. But the other reason this is a top tip - is because it gives us more than one chance to get that amazing confetti photo before all the confetti is thrown! And last but by no means least, when you think you’ve bought enough confetti for your guests, take a deep breath and then buy more. Seriously I cannot stress this enough, the more confetti the better! Think confetti downpour not confetti drizzle.
So there you have it, my quick and easy guide to nailing your confetti photos; use paper confetti if you can, try not to squint, stop halfway down the line, the more confetti the better, and of course have fun and enjoy it. (And just in case you’re wondering after reading this, the word confetti is used 34 times in roughly 650 words but I promise I am not that obsessed 👀).
