A MAGICAL WEDDING AT ASKHAM HALL
ALICE & ALIX SAY I DO IN AN ELEGANT BARN WEDDING AT ASKHAM HALL
On the 18th of May 2023, under a sunny sky with a few gentle clouds, Alice and Alix said I do at Askham Hall in the Lake District (one of my absolute favourite places if you didn’t already know) and I was lucky enough to be their wedding photographer. The natural beauty of the venue and the spring sunshine allowed for the first outside ceremony of the year, with the lovely couple exchanging vows on the picture perfect lawn. Here’s their Askham Hall wedding story…
-
The wedding venue: Askham Hall
-
The lovely couple: Alice & Alix
-
The best bit: The Singing Waiters
-
The time of year: May 2023
-
The weather conditions: Sunny with some clouds
BRIDAL PREP, A STUNNING SUITE AND A BATHFUL OF BOUQUETS!
The day began with the bridal preparations in one of Askham Hall's amazing suites. The room was nothing short of breathtaking, featuring a gorgeous bathroom with a freestanding bath where the brides and bridesmaid’s bouquets were thoughtfully kept hydrated ahead of the big celebration which happily for me, created the perfect photo opportunity, just look at this…
The floral arrangements, crafted by Made in Flowers (@madeinflowers), were a true reflection of the couple's style and I have to say the flowers perfectly complemented the rustic charm of Askham Hall too. Alice and her bridesmaids looked beautiful thanks to the artistry of Hair and Makeup by Heather C (@hairandmakeupbyheatherc). Heather's skillful touch enhanced their natural beauty, and created some magical photo moments during the bridal prep for me to capture.
A UNIQUE WEDDING CAKE...

Forgoing traditional wedding cakes, Alice and Alix decided on a unique approach to their wedding cake... or should I say wedding wheels of cheese, masterfully curated by Keswick Cheese Deli (@keswickcheese). A scrumptious and artistic choice that went down very well with all the guests.
EMOTIONAL SPEECHES AND SURPRISE TRIBUTE:
During the reception in the rustic barn at Askham Hall, heartwarming speeches were accompanied by a moving presentation on a projector. There was also a surprise video tribute too, featuring none other than Ed Sheeran (kind of) singing a song dedicated to the couple too.
THE SINGING WAITERS AND SWINGING NAPKINS
As the wedding breakfast concluded, things livened up by the appearance of the talented Singing Waiters (@thesingalongwaiters). The cleverly disguised performers transformed the room into a party atmosphere where everyone joined in, singing, dancing, and swinging their napkins and I have to say this was undoubtedly my favourite bit of the day!

Later on, the celebration continued with The Photo Hoof (@photohoof), a charming horse box turned photobooth. Guests had a blast capturing amusing and heartfelt moments and I had a blast capturing them, capturing them (anyone seen inception?)...

To wrap up the evening, the dance floor came alive, thanks to the talented DJ from AG Events (@ageventsuk) and let’s be honest, nothing beats a good dancefloor photo…
