A BEAUTIFULLY FESTIVE DECEMBER WEDDING

AMY AND JOE SAY "I DO" AT THE PUMPING HOUSE IN OLLERTON.

In December 2023 I headed out to capture the beautiful wedding of Amy and Joe at The Pumping House in Ollerton. Here’s their wedding story…

  • The wedding venue: The Pumping House

  • The lovely couple: Amy and Joe

  • The best bit: the host roast!

  • The time of year: 17th December 2023

  • The weather conditions: Dry but VERY windy

A FESTIVE WEDDING IN A FANTASTIC VICTORIAN VENUE

Amy and Joe's wedding was my first time shooting at the pumping house in Ollerton and I’m excited to be back again two more times in 2026. This venue is a stunning grade ii listed Victorian building, sitting just on the edge of Sherwood Forest and it has beautiful, full length arched windows and industrial red brick walls that created the perfect backdrop for some of my favourite photos from their special day.

CHRISTMAS TREES, HOLLY AND ACORNS

Given the time of year, the 17th of December, the venue was decorated with some festive touches including a Christmas tree and holly and acorn inspired florals. The wedding day kicked off with bridal prep in the absolutely gorgeous bridal suite with Amy's Nearest and Dearest; her mum, the bridesmaids and a flower girl. From there we moved on to the ceremony which took place in a smaller, more intimate space, with one of those amazing full length arched windows letting in lots of natural light.

It was an emotional ceremony and one of the loveliest ones I've ever had the honour to be part of. After the ceremony, we took on the wind and created an amazing confetti photo moment in front of the beautiful red brick backdrop of the building. Just look at these gorgeous photos…

250 GUESTS, 2 BEST MEN AND 1 AMAZING SINGER

After the confetti photo moment we stayed in front of that amazing red brick wall to take some group photos, before the guests indulged in a little bit of mingling, some drinks and canapes, all whilst being treated to a fantastic acoustic set by the brilliant Michael Mulholland. As the evening moved on to the reception we entered a larger space, where the couple's whopping 250 guests, the maximum capacity for the venue, were able to enjoy the funny and emotional speeches from the groom and his duo of Best Men.

THE HOST ROAST!

Now I mentioned earlier that my favourite part of this wedding was the host roast so let me tell you a little bit more about that. As the name suggests, the food was a fantastic roast dinner but to make it a host roast this dinner was served by a chosen guest at each table, who is given an apron, a chef hat and a set of carving knives to help them carve the meat and serve it to the rest of their table. Safe to say this created some hilarious photo opportunities and it was great fun for everyone involved.

NEW YORK, NEW YORK!

After dinner guests were treated to another singer, this time covering swing classics from the likes of Frank Sinatra, which created a fantastic photo moment when everyone got up from their seats and started  waving their napkins and singing New York, New York! I loved it.

And last, but by no means least, the wedding reception was concluded with the cutting of the most gorgeous cake from bakes by Sonia, before the couple indulged in their first dance and the party really got started…
