A BEAUTIFUL BARN WEDDING AT THE NORMANS

JADE & EMILE SAY "I DO" AT THE NORMAN'S FARM IN YORK

Just a few months ago, I was lucky enough to spend the day at The Norman’s Farm in York, photographing the beautiful barn wedding of Jade and Emile. This is their wedding story…

  • The wedding venue: The Norman’s Farm in York

  • The lovely couple: Jade & Emile

  • The best bit: getting to do a wedding with my other half!

  • The time of year: 22nd July 2023

  • The weather conditions: rain all day!

NOT ONE, BUT TWO BARNS FOR THIS RUSTIC WEDDING!

Now anyone who knows me, knows I love a barn wedding, and with two barns in one venue at The Norman’s Farm in York, it goes without saying that I was absolutely in my element. It all started in the cute little on site cottage for the bridal prep shoot, which was the perfect place to begin because it’s right next door to the wedding ceremony barn (good news when it’s a rainy day). The bride and bridesmaid were pampered by CharlotteWilliamsonBeauty and the wedding dress was a stunner - an Enzoani gown purchased from Perfect Daze Bridal. I should also add that the Groom and Groomsmen looked equally dapper in their suits from Suit Culture too…

The cottage has plenty of mirrors, so I was able to get some great snaps of the bride and bridesmaids getting ready. This was also the space where the father of the bride bridal reveal moment was captured too.

After what I can only describe as a ten second dash under umbrellas to the ceremony barn, everyone was ready for the wedding to take place. Now I have to say, the ceremony barn makes for some beautiful barn wedding photos. There are no windows in this barn, but what it lacks in natural light, it more than makes up for in fairy lights (my favourite!!). It’s soft, warm and rustic - everything you could ask for from a barn wedding venue and I think you’ll agree, it creates some great photos…

BROLLIES & BONGOS IN THE SECOND BARN!

As I mentioned right at the start, The Norman’s in York, a working farm, has two barns and in between them is an amazing courtyard and an old cow shed seating area with hay bale cushions. This sheltered area was the ideal spot for wedding musician (and my other half) Connor Walsh to get set up for the day with his guitar, microphone, amp and speakers to get the party started! This was the space we also set up a few group shots to spare the guests from the weather and without having to source even more umbrellas! When the rain finally turned into a light drizzle, myself, the bride and groom headed out for some private portraits… we started with brollies in hand to save getting wet, but in the end, the guys embraced the rain and went brolly free and as a result, we got some truly stunning and unique wedding photos, check these out…

After the portraits, it was time for the wedding breakfast and the speeches in barn number two and the amazing soft lighting from yet more fairy lights, created some more amazing barn wedding photos. We captured the all important cutting of the cake, the father daughter dance and of course the first dance, danced to Wicked Game (a fantastic song choice in my opinion). After that @girlsthatmix came on with a DJ and solo percussionist playing the bongos, who kept the dance floor VERY busy! All in all it was a fantastic, fun day & a real joy for me to photograph.

If you like the sound of Jade and Emile's barn wedding at The Normans in York, or better yet, if you love their wedding photos, then let’s talk about your special day.
